Elijah Obebo is Arati’s surprise nominee for Kisii Deputy

Date:

Ahead of Simba Arati’s naming of Elijah Obebo as his nominee Deputy, several names of well known politicians had been floated.

But even then, it is the current Kisii Public Service Board Chair who has been favoured by the Governor, a few days after the ouster of Robert Monda.

Making the announcement earlier today, Kisii County Speaker Philip Nyanuba said that the assembly was ready to process the nomination without delay.

No vetting

“I nominate the following person as shown below for the position of deputy governor pending approval by the County Assembly; Elijah Obebo,” Mr Arati announced.

“When the vacant of a deputy governor arises as provided under section of 32 C, the governor shall in within 14 days appoint a Deputy Governor. The County assembly shall consider the motion for approval of a Deputy Governor within 14 and resolves whether to approve the motion or deemed to had resolved to pass the motion upon the lapse of the 14 days,” he said.

Monda appeal

According to the Majority Leader, Henry Morancha the House will not vet the nominee Deputy as a similar exercise was carried out in December when he was nominated to head the public service Board.

Meanwhile, Mr Monda has appealed against the impeachment that was initiated by the Kisii County Assembly and upheld by the Senate.

While announcing the decision to uphold the impeachment, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said, “The result of the division indicates that the senators have upheld the following impeachment charges: a gross violation of the constitution and any other law, abuse of office, gross misconduct, and crimes under national law.”

Nomination of a Deputy Governor is a crucial decision that can greatly impact the functioning and success of a government. It is imperative to carefully evaluate the candidates to ensure a harmonious working relationship within the government and avoid unnecessary squabbles. When selecting a Deputy Governor nominee, certain key qualities should be considered to promote effective governance and collaboration.
